ARMA - it's in our brand and our products, but what exactly is it and how does it help protect you?
ARMA is a revolutionary new energy absorbing material, designed to alter the way we think about protecting the human body from impact and injury. Gone are the days of bulky, uncomfortable, often heavy, body worn protection. This new generation material may be incorporated directly into a garment to shield against impacts and abrasions.
We incorporate these ultra slim ARMA impact protection pads into the critical areas of our garments, including the hip, shoulder and elbow, to offer BS 1621 approved impact and coverage protection.
The result is protection built into your cycling apparel which helps to prevent injury from impact in the unfortunate event of a fall.
How does it work?
The ARMA pad absorbs and dissipates energy greatly upon impact; reducing up to 80% of impact forces transmitted to the body, despite a thickness of only 4mm. The pads show no loss in performance at high or low temperatures, and unlike PU or EPS foams, ARMA can take multiple impacts onto the same point without being destroyed.
Testing
Our ARMA range of parts are tested at the UK’s No1 Premier PPE (Personal protective equipment) Certification and Testing centre, Satra.
Whilst there is currently no official testing standards for protective road cycling equipment, at ArmaUrto we ensure that all our impact protection ARMA parts are tested to EN1621-1 standard - the test is used to assess the protective qualities of armour worn on the limb joints of a motorcycle rider. No product makes it to the consumer unless it has passed this standard.
We've looked at what EN1621-1 means for our products here.
